The
inspirations adopted from radio plays got it’s effect initially on the stage
in the form of my theatrical activities. I was involved with many groups from
time to time. I had the privilege of working with the stalwarts, mediocres
even sub-standards. It was a fantastic lesson that taught me rigorously and
cleared my choices of the good and the bad - what to do and what not to.
I got the first break and was in the limelight
while playing CREON in ANTIGONE by Sophocles - a play produced by the MaxMuller
Bhavan, Kolkata. The director was Hansguenther Heyme of Stuttgart State Theatre,
Germany. It was a lifetime experience.
I also had the scope of participating actively
in the theatre workshops conducted by Carmen Paternostro (Brazil), Badal
Sarkar, Roger Simon (USA), Utpal Dutta and other maestros.
The directors whom I worked with, glorify the dramatic
arena by their own charishma - Tripti Mitra, Tarun Roy, Sabitabrata Dutta,
Soumitra Chattopdahyay, Ganesh Mukhopadhyay, Bibhash Chakraborty, Chandan
Sen, Meghnad Bhattacharya, Samir Majumder, Ashok Mukhopdhayay, Bhairab
Gangopadhyay and many others.
When I ventured into the Yatra, it was another delightful
experience. The audience of remote villages and suburbs were a real challenge to face. I came out successfully as
I earned their undaunted praise, confidence and admiration, not only as an actor but as
a singer too.
